Alvin Brooks Not Expected to Return to Kentucky Coaching Staff

The second coaching domino of the offseason has reportedly fallen for the Kentucky men’s basketball staff.

Alvin Brooks III, according to KSR’s Jacob Polacheck, is not expected to return to Kentucky next season. He served as the associate head coach under Mark Pope and now becomes the second assistant coach not returning, joining Jason Hart, who left for SMU.

Like Hart, Brooks had an expiring contract this offseason. It is unclear whether Kentucky offered to re-sign him or if both sides elected to part ways and go in a different direction.

The 46-year-old Brooks was part of Mark Pope’s first staff in Lexington and has been with the program for the past two seasons, the entirety of Pope’s tenure at Kentucky. Originally from Houston, Brooks spent the previous eight seasons on the Baylor staff in Waco. He also had stops at Kansas State, Sam Houston State, Bradley, Midland, and Arkansas–Fort Smith.

While Kentucky recently hired Keegan Brown in a front-office role, Pope now has two primary assistant coaching spots to fill in the coming weeks.

Cody Fueger, who has been with Pope dating back to their time at BYU and now Kentucky, also has a contract that expires this summer, along with Mark Fox. Fox has also removed all Kentucky references from his social media bios, which is worth noting.

@BigBlueDylan has been all over the news this offseason, including reporting and speculation surrounding these staff changes.

These are certainly interesting times in Lexington early in the offseason.

It is apparent Mark Pope is making changes and is not satisfied with the current situation.

Earlier today, Kentucky landed a commitment from 2026 four-star point guard Mason Williams, the son of Jackson State head coach and former NBA All-Star Mo Williams, as they look to address point guard depth for next season.

Now, two assistant coach departures have surfaced, with potentially more to come.

Mark Pope is addressing what he believes are necessary changes to get Kentucky basketball back to operating as one of the best programs in the country.

This is shaping up to be a wild offseason in Lexington.
