Kentucky is once again considering a familiar name in the transfer portal. Dedan Thomas Jr. is drawing interest from Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball after entering the portal after one season with LSU . Reopening a recruitment that nearly happened just a year ago. It was recently reported he will have a zoom call with the coaching staff. The portal is now open and coaches can legally make direct contact with players.
This isn’t the first time Kentucky has pursued Thomas. In March of 2025, after two standout seasons with UNLV, he entered the transfer port. He was quickly became one of the top point guards available. Kentucky showed interest at the time and had multiple zoom meeting with him. Dedan Thomas Jr. was a target that Kentucky prioritized before he committed to LSU on April 1st.
Now, nearly one year later, the Wildcats have another opportunity.
Thomas’ season in Baton Rouge was shortened by injury. Nonetheless, he still showcased high-level production when available. In 16 games, he averaged 15.3 PPG, 6.5 APG, and 2.7 RPG on 46/30/83 shooting splits before a left foot injury required season-ending surgery.

Despite the limited sample size, Thomas remains one of the more experienced and proven point guards in the portal. Before LSU, he earned Mountain West Freshman of the Year honors and posted back-to-back strong seasons at UNLV.
With Kentucky again searching for backcourt leadership and roster clarity for the 2026-27 season, he presents a familiar and interesting choice. What nearly happened last spring now has a second chance, and Kentucky appears ready to revisit a recruitment that once slipped away.
