Fresh off a visit to Kentucky, Jaylan chatted with me around his visit and next steps.
My visit went great to Kentucky, Mitchell said. The atmosphere was crazy, the fans showed so much love and you can tell they are all about their basketball team there, I loved it. Mitchell, a 6’8 power forward, who is ranked Top 5, in the class of 2027, currently plays basketball in the state of Indiana, for Reitz High School in Evansville.
Coach Pope was such a cool dude. The thing that stood out about the visit was he didn’t just come talk to me right away, Mitchell said. He actually made sure to talk and connect with my family before even getting around to me. I think that shows how genuine and kind of a person he is, while Pope was doing that, I was about to interact with Coach Alvin Brooks, which he was pretty cool and fun to be around as well, the vibe I got was all about family. When asked around his recruitment he stated Illinois has recruited him the hardest thus far. I’m from Olney, Illinois, so I’ve been around those coaches the longest, and have already built a connection with them.
Jaylan stated he was enjoying the process thus far, I feel like I have a few months before it gets even more chaotic. I am a big believer in God and without him, none of this would be possible. I thank him everyday for all of the opportunities he has given me. I just love this game so much, and I’ve been blessed with a gift from God and I’ve worked hard for everything I’ve gotten but I need to stay focused.
When watching the game on Friday night, Jaylan really liked how Kentucky played fast and also slow at times. They can shoot the lights out and with that it opens pu everything that causes teams not to switch and makes the defenders guard tight which will open up the down hill action. I like easy buckets and beating teams by 30 and they did just that. They also simplify the game.
Jaylan currently holds offers to Indiana, who he took in the football game Saturday, Arizona State, Illinois, Missouri, Maryland, Notre Dame, and others.
BBN is such an amazing atmosphere and seeing them fill the stadium up on a game that wasn’t intended to be close just shows how they are there for their players, and you can tell they love basketball in Kentucky.
Bleed Blue Network plans to continue to follow this recruitment close, and will keep everyone updated as things change.
