Kentucky is Gearing Up for a Pivotal Visit from five-star guard Jordan Smith Jr.
The Kentucky Wildcats are making a push for one of the top prospects in the class of 2026 in Jordan Smith Jr. A consensus five-star guard (#2/247) out of Paul VI Catholic (Virginia). Smith is set to take his official visit to Kentucky from October 10th-12th, aligning with the Big Blue Madness weekend. That same weekend, Kentucky Football will also host Texas at home, which will likely be a game he is in attendance for.
National Interest
Jordan Smith Jr. is undoubtedly the best guard in the country. The 6’2 200lbs combo guard is ranked 2nd by 247sports. He is known for his physical strength, defensive ability, and tough, gritty play style, often times getting to the rim. As a result, he has drawn heavy attention from some of the top programs across the country, such as Duke, Louisville, Arkansas, and others.
Kentucky’s Offer and Recruiting Timeline
Kentucky offered Smith a scholarship on September 17th, of 2024. Highlighting their interest in the five-star guard. Head coach Mark Pope followed that up with a key in-home visit on April 30th, personally meeting him and his family. Additionally, Mark Pope had the opportunity to coach him at the U19 USA Training Camp, and he had great things to say about the coaching staff:
Mark Pope has been telling me I can come in, make an impact immediately, help them win a championship. He said I don’t have to worry about the transfer portal too much … I’m going to come in, [I] might start, and impact the game”
Decision Timeline Still Fluid
While Smith initally hinted he might make a decision shortly after finishing his official visits, that plan now appears to be in flux. He’s said recently that his commitment timeline is “up in the air,” indicating that he’s in no rush to make a decision until he feels comfortable about the fit.
This makes Kentucky’s October 10th-12th visit even more important, and they must make a strong lasting impression during one of their biggest recruiting weekends.
