Another former Kentucky Wildcat is on the move
NBA insider Shams Charania reported earlier today that TyTy Washington Jr. has agreed to a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, another move in his professional career at a young age. The deal the confirmed by Kevin Bradbury of LIFT Sports Management. For TyTy, this will now be his fourth team in four years. After being selected 29th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets, the Arizona native has now made stops in Houston, Atlanta, Phoenix, and now Los Angeles. In the 2024-25 season, he played 16 games with the suns, showing some flashes of potential.
Though he hasn’t fully broken through in the NBA just yet, this move to the Clippers presents a new fresh opportunity, and maybe the start he needs. Washington joins a veteran heavy roster that includes elite competition with players such as Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, James Harden, etc.
Kentucky fans will remember Washington’s single season in Lexington during his 2021-22 campaign, where he averaged 12.5 points per game, 3.9 assists per game, and 3.5 rebounds per game. Additionally, he set the single-game assist record against George in 2022 with 17 assists. Though his time at Kentucky consisted of some injuries, the talent has never been in questions, helping lead that 2021-22 team to a 26-8 record and a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but we won’t talk about how that played out.
From Lexington to now Los Angeles, his basketball journey has been nothing short of predictable, but the good thing is that the NBA is sometimes about fit and opportunity. Hopefully he can make something out of the opportunity and keep making Big Blue Nation proud.
