Former Kentucky star Bam Adebayo delivered one of the most remarkable performances in NBA history Tuesday night, erupting for 83 points in the Miami Heat’s 150–129 win over the Washington Wizards. Games reaching the 80-point mark are incredibly rare in the league’s history, with only Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game and Kobe Bryant’s 81-point performance reaching similar territory. Adebayo now joins that same company, putting together one of the most memorable individual performances ever by a former Kentucky player in the NBA while carrying Miami’s offense from start to finish.

Adebayo finished with 83 points on 20-of-43 shooting, including 7-of-22 from three-point range, while going 36-of-43 at the free-throw line in 42 minutes. He added nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks as Miami repeatedly ran its offense through the All-Star center throughout the night. Washington had no answer as Adebayo attacked the paint, knocked down jumpers, and consistently drew contact to pile up points at the line.

The performance shattered Adebayo’s previous career-high scoring mark and quickly became one of the most talked-about individual efforts of the season. While Miami got additional contributions from players like Simone Fontecchio (18 points) and Davion Mitchell (12 points, five assists), the night clearly belonged to the Heat’s star big man.

For Kentucky fans, the performance serves as another reminder of Adebayo’s growth since his time in Lexington. The 6’9 center played one season for the Wildcats under John Calipari in 2016–17, averaging 13.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 60 percent from the field. His energy and physical presence helped Kentucky reach the Elite Eight (in a season they should have gone to the Final Four), and he earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team.

Miami selected Adebayo with the 14th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, and he has since grown into one of the league’s most versatile centers and a multi-time NBA All-Star. Now, after an 83-point explosion, the former Wildcat has added one of the most memorable scoring nights in recent NBA history to his resume.
