Kentucky Basketball Adds Keegan Brown Ahead of Transfer Portal Madness

Earlier today, Kentucky officially announced the addition of Keegan Brown to the Men’s Basketball coach staff as the Director of Roster Management. The hire marks a key step in Pope’s plans to strengthen roster-building, NIL management, and player acquisition strategies ahead of the transfer portal which opens Tuesday, April 7th.


Brown will work closely with Pope and the staff on all aspects of roster management. His responsibilities will include roster construction, transfer portal evaluation, scholarships, resource optimization, and scouting support. He will will also integrate analytics into recruiting and personnel decisions and coordinate information across staff, agents, etc.

“Keegan Brown is an outstanding addition to our program,” Pope said ,“He brings a unique blend of organization, analytics, and feel for the game that’s critical to any organization, along with a deep understanding of what it takes to build a roster that can compete at the highest level. In today’s game, roster management is everything, and Keegan is as good as it gets in that space. We’re excited to have him in Lexington and confident he’ll make an immediate impact on our success.”


Brown and Pope previously worked together at BYU for five seasons. He advanced from video coordinator to director of player personnel, overseeing video, analytics, in-game strategy, NIL cap management, the transfer portal, player development, and scouting coordination. After Pope left BYU for Kentucky, Brown spent two years with the Wisconsin Herd, the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, as video coordinator and director of player personnel support, where he contributed to draft preparation, scouting, and roster evaluation for the Bucks organization.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join a historic program like Kentucky basketball,” Brown said. “The tradition, expectations, and standard here are unmatched, and I’m excited to get to work alongside Coach Pope and the staff to build a roster that reflects that level.”

Brown holds a Master’s in Sports Business Management and an MBA from the University of Central Florida, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from BYU.

Kentucky’s transfer portal opens on April 7, and Brown is expected to play a major role in evaluating and acquiring new players. With the addition of Brown, Pope will have more support in building depth, scouting, and managing player personnel, which should help the Wildcats maintain a competitive roster in the coming seasons.
