Kentucky Baseball Clenches Win Against Texas A&M 3/29

Kentucky Baseball claimed their first win against the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday 14-11 in
College Station on the second day of the weekend series.


The starting lineup for the Cats was: Luke Lawrence, Cole Hage, Hudson Brown, Tyler Bell,
Patrick Herrera, Ethan Hindle, Griffin Cameron, Devin Burkes and Shaunt Montoya. Nic McCay
will start on the bump today for the Cats.


To start off the top of the first Lawrence grounded out to second followed by Hage getting hit by
a pitch to get one base. Brown struck out swinging and then Bell popped one out to left resulting
in a single. Herrera hit a single of his own to score Hage putting the first run on the board for the
Cats quickly.


Aggies’ Kaeden Kent hit one out to left center which landed in the glove of Hage. Bell thre Wyatt
Henseler out and then Jace LaViolette made himself the Texas A&M all-time home runner lead
when he hammered one out to get a run on the board for the Aggies.


Terrence Kiel was walked and then Caden Sorrell mimicked LaViolette hitting a homer of his
own to bring in two more runs, taking the lead for the Aggies 3-1.


The Cats had a short top of the second with Hindle, Cameron and Burkes all striking out. The
bottom of the second was three-up, three-down making it just as quick.


Lawrence hit a single after Montoya fouled out by the catcher. Hage hammered one out for a
homerun to tie up the game, but that’s as far as the Cats would go in the top of the third. The
Aggies opened the bottom of the third with a homerun from Henseler to take the lead back
quickly.


The Aggies wouldn’t remain ahead for long. Hindle got on base after being hit by a pitch and
then Cameron bunted to allow Hindle to advance. Burkes crushed a homerun earning two more
runs for the Cats and giving them back the lead.


A&M stayed on Kentucky’s heels. Gavin Kash was walked and then advanced to second after a
bunt. Ben Royo hit a homer to give the lead right back to the Aggies, 6-5.


Tommy Skelding took over for McCay at the end of the top of the fifth, while the Aggies made a
similar move, replacing Justin Lamkin with Clayton Freshcorn.


Herrera was hit by a pitch and Hindle walked. Cameron loaded the bases up with a bunt and
then Burkes hit Herrera home to tie up the game. Montoya stepped to the plate with bases still
full of Cats and then was hit by a pitch, scoring Hindle. The Cats took the lead 7-6.

Freshcorn’s day came to a close with Luke Jackson stepping to the mound to relieve him.
Lawrence brought home Cameron extending the Cats lead and Hage was walked to load the
bases back up for the Cats. Brown was then hit by a pitch which scored Burkes. Bell singled,
scoring Montoya and Hage. The Bat Cats have made their presence known.


Caden McCoy came to relieve Jackson and then closed out the frame. The game remained
scoreless until the bottom of the seventh. Skelding hit LaViolette and Terrance Kiel then gave a
single to Sorell to load the bases up for the Aggies. Simon Gregerson came to relieve
Skelding.Bear Harrison hit a homer to bring home bases full of Aggies to get within one of the
Cats, 11-10.


Hage grounded one out to the shortstop at the start of the eighth and Brown popped one out to
right to get one first. Bell slammed one out to left with a homerun to add two more runs for the
Cats. Hindle mimicked Bell hitting a homerun up to left to continue expanding the Cats lead,
14-10.


The Aggies only managed one more run before the game ended resulting in Kentucky claiming
its first win of the weekend series.


Kentucky will return to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. to play their last game in College Station of the
weekend series against the Aggies.
