The University of Kentucky baseball team hosted the Evansville Aces claiming a tremendous
win of 24-3 on Tuesday. This was the most runs scored in a game since March 2014 when the
Cats played Ball state and won, 26-3. The most runs in one game in school history is 30 runs.
The batting line up for the Cats was: Luke Lawrence, Shaun Montoya, Cole Hage, Tyler Bell,
Carson Hansen, Devin Burkes, Dylan Koontz, Ethan Hindle, and James McCoy.
This first pitch was thrown at 4:02 p.m. EST from Nate Harris who was making his debut on the
mound.
After a scoreless top of this first, the Cats woke up their bats scoring 7 runs, one of these runs
being a home run from Koontz.
The top of the second started off with Harris striking out two batters and then Evansville’s Drew
Howard finally made contact with a ball, but it fell into the hands of a Wildcat not giving the Ace’s
any sort of advance. The Cats did not manage to make any runs in the bottom of the second.
Starting off the top of the third, the Ace’s finally managed to send a batter home and get a run
on the board. Evansville’s Kaleb Wilkey and Drew McConnell advanced on base, and Ty
Rumsey batted in Wilkey.
Evansville managed one more run before hitting their third out and giving the bats back over to
the Cats. Hindle and Burkes found themselves on base and Montoya hit Burkes home, adding
one more run for the Cats before the end of the inning.
The top of the fourth was a quick inning for the Aces. Charlie Longmeier and Wilkey were struck
out, and Howards hit a ball to center field which was caught, ending the inning. The bottom of
the fourth kicked off with a homerun from Hage. Burkes then hit a double to bring Tyler Bell
home. Burkes found himself right back at home plate after he was hit in by Koontz. Hindle
walked up to bat with loaded bases, but struck out to cap off the inning.
Robert Hogan was on the mound for the Cats to start off the fifth inning. Hogan struck out two
batters, and then Harrison Taubert was walked after getting hit with a pitch. The Cats threw the
next batter out at first, moving right along to the bottom of the inning.
Hage hit a double and Bell followed it with a double of his own, sending Hage home. Burkes
found his way back on the bag, and Hindle brought him home. McCoy walked after being hit
with a pitch, but Kyuss Gargett was thrown out at first to finish things up for the fifth inning.
Tristan Hunter took Hogan’s spot on the mound and struck out the first batter. The next two
batters found their balls in the gloves of the Cats, wrapping up a quick top of the sixth. The Cat’s
brought in eight runs at the bottom of this inning.
Griffin Cameron was walked and then stole second on a wild pitch. Patrick Herrera was walked
and Cameron stole third on another wild pitch. Herrera mimicked Cameron and stole second
after the third wild pitch. Cameron scored after a balk.
Hindle was walked, letting Hudson Brown walk home. McCoy hit Burkes home, bases still
loaded. Gargett hit one up right field to send Koontz home. Cameron then hit one to left field
letting Hindle run home. Ryan Schwartz was hit by a pitch that walked McCoy home. Gargett
was hit home, and Cameron scored one last run before the ending of the inning.
Herrera was on the mound for what was left of the game. After three quick outs the Cats won,
24-3.
