Kentucky Beats UTK 8-2 to Close Series in Knoxville

Kentucky had a huge win against Tennessee beating them 8-2 and winning the game and the
weekend series in Lindsey Nelson Stadium.


The starting lineup for the Cats was: Tyler Bell, Hudson Brown, Kyuss Gargett, Dylan Koontz,
Patrick Herrera, Carson Hansen, Devin Burkes, Luke Lawrence and Ryan Schwartz. Ben
Cleaver is the one starting off on the mound today for the Cats.


After a scoreless first inning, the Cats broke through in the top of the second. Hansen singled
and then stole second. Burkes and Lawrence both walked which loaded up the bases for
Schwartz. Schwartz took advantage and hit a single to bring Hansen home, and a wild pitch
allowed Burkes to score, closing out the frame.


Kentucky continued to lay on the gas with another run in the top of the fourth. Hansen walked
and Burkes followed by hitting a single up to left field. A Vols error allowed Hansen to score and
Burkes to advance to third. However, Schwartz struck out to end the frame.


At the bottom of the sixth the Vols offense finally came alive. Dean Curley walked and then
Hunter Ensley crushed one out to left to score himself and Curley.


The Cats continued to grow their lead in the top of the eighth. After Brown got on base and
appeared uncomfortable, Cameron came in to run for him. Gargett followed with a single which
moved Cameron to third. Koontz grounded out which allowed Gargett to advance to second and
Cameron scored. Herrera capped the inning off with a single that brought Gargett home.


Kentucky continued to keep the pressure on offensively. Hansen drilled a double up the middle
which moved Herrera to third, and Burkes followed with a single to bring him home. Simon
Gregersen then came on the mount to relieve Cleaver.


The Cats sealed the game in the top of the ninth, adding on two more final runs. Bell and
Cameron both hit doubles and bring in the first of those two runs. Cameron stole third, Montoya
popped one out to right field, and Koontz had a bunt that brought Cameron home, putting the
final run on the board of the game.


Kentucky will return to the bluegrass to play the Louisville Cardinals on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
