Kentucky lost to Alabama for the third time in the SEC Tournament Quarterfinals in Nashville
on Friday, 99-70. This made Alabama the only team in the country that has beaten Kentucky’s
team this year more than once.
The first five on the court for the Cats were Andrew Carr, Otega Oweh, Amari Williams, Koby
Brea, and Travis Perry.
Alabama started off with an early lead, but Kentucky responded with a pair of free throws and a
Oweh dunk to remain within reach of the Tide. Alabama continued to score and Brea drained a
three to keep the Cats within one, 8-7.
Alabama went on a small surge to grow their lead 12-7, but Kentucky fought back with a layup
from Carr followed by a three from Perry that tied up the game. However, Alabama exploded
taking the lead, 23-14.
Trent Noah and Brea contributed some baskets for Kentucky, but the Tide remained in control
answering all of Kentucky’s efforts. Perry made a three-point play followed by a basket from
Wiilliams. Williams added a pair of free throws to get within four, but Alabam acted fast scoring
the next four points to continue to grow their lead.
Williams’ hands found the rim for a dunk, but Alabam answered again, securing their lead into
the half, 45-36.
Alabama started things off in the second half similarly to how they did in the first, scoring the
first points of the half. Carr answered with a basket for the Cats, but the Tide countered it with a
three. Williams managed a pair of free throws before Alabama went on a 5-0 run. However, Carr
kept Kentucky in it with another basket.
Alabama drilled another three, while Carr and Oweh added some points on the board for
Kentucky. However, Alabama stayed in front adding another three to their score. Oweh added
another set of free throws, but Alabam answered surging ahead, scoring the next five points.
Williams put a halt to the Tide’s momentum with a dunk, but Alabama quickly grew their 20
points. Kentucky tried to close the gap, but Alabama remained in control which resulted in a win
for the Crimson Tide.
The Cats will know where they are headed in the NCAA Tournament come Sunday.
