Kentucky has secured their second pickup of the transfer portal with the commitment of Alex Wilkins. A combo guard out of Furman. Wilkins visited Kentucky on April 16th. The now the rising sophomore becomes a massive key to Mark Pope’s system in a massive year for the Wildcats.
Alex Wilkins, out of Mattapan, MA, averaged 17.8 points per game, with 4.7 assists per game, and 2 rebounds per game on 46 percent shooting from the field and 32 percent from three point range. Although fans may be concerned about a high turnover rate, He has shown the ability to play the two position, and will not have as much pressure and usage. Zoom Diallo, a transfer PG out of Washington, has the ability to run the show on offense and will help reduce those usage nubers.
Alex Wilkins is a three level scorer, with an ability to throw off defenders with his change of pace ball handling. Additionally, he has crafty finishing around the rim. He can also get his bigs involved, and is an underrated defender, who can operate in transition. In a time where the SEC is full of dynamic players on every team, this pickup is all the more important to compete at the top of the league, and nationally as well.
Wilkins was an all tournament team selection for the SoCon, as well as the SoCon tournament most outstanding player, and second team all SoCon. His most notable performance was a 21 point performance against national finalist UConn in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament, where he was able to showcase his skills to the nation and receive national recognition, keeping the Paladins in the game throughout.
Mark Pope and Kentucky will look to add to this transfer portal class, with interest in portal talent that can hopefully turn into visits and commits thereafter.
