Kentucky Lands Four-Star PG Mason Williams

Kentucky landed its first commitment in the 2026 class as four-star point guard Mason Williams announced his decision to join Mark Pope and the Wildcats following his official visit to Lexington this week.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound guard from Tennessee Collegiate Academy originally committed to Jackson State, where his father, former NBA All-Star Mo Williams, is head coach. After decommitting December, Williams reopened his recruitment and ultimately chose Kentucky, giving Pope the No. 124 overall prospect and No. 19 point guard in the 2026 class.

The commitment comes at an important time for Kentucky. Pope signed three high school players last year, headlined by Jasper Johnson and Malachi Moreno, along with Braydon Hawthorne and an International addition in Andrija Jelavic. Despite those additions, Kentucky missed on several top targets, and the Wildcats entered the 2026 cycle still searching for their first commitment after offering more than 20 prospects.

Williams helps break that cold streak while also addressing a major roster concern: point guard depth. During the 2025-26 season, Kentucky lost Jaland Lowe to a season-ending shoulder injury, leaving Florida transfer Denzel Aberdeen as the lone primary ball-handler. Jasper Johnson was forced to play out of position, and the Wildcats struggled with ball pressure the rest of the season. Williams is projected as a developmental guard early on, but his addition gives Kentucky a valuable depth piece and long-term option at the position.

He also brings strong basketball pedigree. Mo Williams spent 13 seasons in the NBA, earned All-Star honors in 2008-09 with Cleveland, and finished his career with over 10,700 points and nearly 4,000 assists before moving into coaching at Alabama State and Jackson State.

For Kentucky, Williams may not be the splashiest addition, but landing the first 2026 commitment gives Mark Pope momentum and flexibility while addressing a key roster need moving forward.
