After a disappointing haul in the 2026 recruiting cycle, Kentucky appears to be off to a much stronger start in 2027.
The Wildcats landed their first commitment in the class Sunday morning when five-star wing Ryan Hampton, the No. 6 overall prospect in the country, announced his commitment on Instagram.
The 6-foot-6 standout has been one of Kentucky’s top priorities for close to a year, and it’s easy to see why. Hampton is currently averaging 22.5 points and 6.3 rebounds on the Nike EYBL circuit this summer. His scoring ability and versatility has made him one of the nation’s premier prospects.
Kentucky’s 2026 recruiting class struggled on closing it out, and missing on multiple key prospects outside of four-star guard Mason Williams. While Pope relied heavily on the transfer portal to build his roster, landing a player of Hampton’s caliber gives the Wildcats foundation for 2027 and provides momentum on the recruiting trail moving forward.
For a program looking to re-establish itself among the nation’s elite recruiters, Hampton’s commitment is a significant first step.
