“Everything that we do is by design, and we know what we’re doing.” Kenny Brooks said after a
Kentucky Women’s Basketball win against Arkansas today in Historic Memorial Coliseum.
After Kentucky lost to Texas A&M, they were hungry for a win. They were fed, led by Georgia
Amoore who scored 19 points and Clara Strack who managed 17. Teonni Key provided 13
points and Amelia Hassett and Dazia Lawrence scored 14 points each for Kentucky.
Kentucky was quick to find their footwork in the first period scoring the first 11 points of the
game. Amoore put up four of the 11 point stretch, and the rest of the five starters scored to
assist in the quick advantage.
Arkansas struggled to get close to the Cats, only managing to get within seven twice. The Cats
didn’t allow the Razorbacks confidence, closing the first period out with a three from Key and
Hassett, a lay up from Clara Silva and Amoore, and a putback from Strack settling the score
29-10 at the end of the first.
Entering the second quarter Arkansas managed to score the first two points, but the Cats
reacted with a 13-5 run not allowing those points to provide much for the Razorbacks. Lexi Blue
entered the court contributing to the run with five points and Amoore and Lawrence each landed
themselves a three extending the lead 42-17.
Arkansas got some traction scoring eight straight points, but Amoore halted them with a jumper
only growing the Cats lead 44-25. Arkansas closed out the quarter managing to score the final
three points, but they were still within 16, 44-28.
The third quarter started quieter than the previous ones, but Kentucky got loud with an 11-0 run
with some threes from both Hassett and Lawrence. At the end of the quarter Amoore passed
the ball to Lawrence who hit a three right at the buzzer settling the score 77-53 going into the
final quarter.
“I thought that play we had at the end of the third quarter,” Brooks said in regards to the basket
made by Lawrence to close out the third quarter, “when she (Amoore) could have heaped up a
three, and she passed over to Dazia Lawrence is the epitome of how we want to play
basketball.”
Entering the final quarter, the Cats did not give the Razorbacks much of a chance extending
their lead 26 points. Arkansas fought, but not hard enough and Kentucky took the win 89-69.
Kentucky will remain at home this Thursday to play against Alabama. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. ET.
