No.12 Kentucky traveled to Athens, Georgia this Sunday and defeated the University of Georgia
Bulldogs 78-64 in front of a crowd of 3,071 people. The starting line up for the Cats was
Georgia Amoore, Teonni Key, Dazia Lawrence, Clara Strack, and Amelia Hassett.
Kentucky was quick to score the first points of the game, thanks to a three from Amoore. Strack
was next to score for the Cats reacting to a Georgia layup, Amoore fired another three, and
Hassett finished it off with a layup of her own. Georgia responded with another basket, but
Amoore didn’t let it last with another layup for the Cats, settling the score 12-3.
Georgia had a free throw, and Amoore, still hot, hit another three furthering Kentucky’s lead
15-4. Hassett pushed it ever further with a layup forcing Georgia into a timeout. Coming out of
the timeout Hassett and Strack each had a lay up of their own putting the Cats into the twenties,
23-4, finishing up the first quarter.
Coming into the second quarter, Key had some action scoring a bucket before Georgia reacted
with a three. Key wasn’t done, she scored again and then added a free throw. Georgia had two
free throws, Strack responded with a layup and Amoore landed her fourth three putting them
into the thirties 33-9.
Strack pushed the Cats up two more points with a basket, but the Bulldogs found their footing
and scored eight in a row, knocking on the twenties door, 35-19. Strack broke the streak making
a layup and then a free throw. Amoore managed another basket and Hassett hit a three,
enhancing the distance, 44-21 just before halftime.
Entering the second half, the Bulldogs came out hot scoring the first two points, but Amoore
blew out that ember with a three. Georgia hit a three and Saniah Tyler returned the favor with a
three of her own. The score was 50-26 before Georgia went on an 8-0 run, but Strack ended the
run with a basket, settling the score and the lead, 52-34.
Georgia scored five in a row in response to Kentucky pushing the lead 19 points. Strack landed
a free throw as the third period ended, the score 57-42.
Strack entered the final quarter with a three. Georgia landed a free throw and Amoore
countered it scoring a basket. Georgia went on a streak scoring the next five points only
disrupted by a three from Hassett, the score now 65-48. Kentucky wrapped it up, and secured
the win.
The Wildcats return to action this Thursday traveling to College Station to face the Texas A&M
Aggies at 7 p.m. ET.
