Kentucky Women’s Soccer Advances In NCAA Tournament

By Addy Jacoby, November 16th 2024

On Friday night at the Bell, the Kentucky women’s soccer went head to
head with a tough West Virginia women’s team. The girls had a hard exit
from the SEC tournament in the first round against Tennessee 1-0. The
girls showed all grit and determination to avenge their tournament with a
hot start. Both teams were flying high early on with the lady cats having
most possession the first half but losing the possession at the end 52-48.
The second half only brought just as much excitement with Kentucky’s,
Maddie Kemp, putting away a loose ball in the box after West Virginia took
a lead 2 minutes earlier. Kentucky had two really good chances hitting both
the crossbar and the right goal post in the span of one minute. Later on
West Virginia went to attack but goalkeeper, Marz Josephson, came out
and made her body big to block the shot. The game stayed deadlock the
rest of the time. Leading both teams into a brutal overtime and lots of tired
legs out on the field. The counterattacks were where teams tended to thrive
but no shot could still find the back of the night. The ladies then went into
pks where Marz Josephson was the star of the show saving two pks and
lifting her team over West Virginia. The #5 seed Cats will now play the #4 seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish in
the second round.
