Mark Pope shares eye-opening shooting numbers from Kentucky’s summer workouts

Mark Pope has a latest update on Kentucky’s new roster that is already establishing the reputation of a team full of shooters.

During an appearance on Inside College Basketball Now with Jon Rothstein, Pope shared an eye-catching statistic from the Wildcats’ first few weeks of summer workouts.

“Right now in the summer, we have six guys that are over 70% in all of their practice reps shooting the ball from the three-point line.”

The number shouldn’t come as a complete surprise. Kentucky added proven shooters like Milan Momcilovic while returning others that will help stretch the floor, giving Pope another roster built to space the court and generate open looks.

Pope like’s what he’s seen from the team so far.

“I like us, were heavy creators. We’re really heavy length. We could really, really shoot the ball.”

Mark Pope also believes the Cats have the personnel to play at a faster pace while taking advantage of their versatility.

“I think we have the ability to run and play with pace. I think we have some guys with capability being elite-level cutters.”

It’s still early and Kentucky is just a few weeks into summer workouts, but the intel so far has been encouraging. If the Wildcats can carry that shooting into the regular season, they’ll have the offensive firepower to beat just about anyone on their schedule.
