Marques Skinner’s Visit: A Promising Recruitment for Kentucky

Kentucky may not be through with the Skinner family. 2027 tight end Marques Skinner, the younger brother of four-star tight end Mikkel Skinner, made a visit to Lexington. He spoke with Bleed Blue Network about his visit, and the feedback looks promising:

“The visit was great. I’m glad I got to get back on campus and meet the new staff. The ice and snow earlier wouldn’t allow me to come up earlier this semester.” Skinner told Bleed Blue Network.

First Impressions Leave a Lasting Impact

The Greer, South Carolina, native took a tour around the university. He met with staff members. He got an idea of what it would be like to represent the school in the future. He spoke with Bleed Blue Network about how much he enjoyed the visit:

“I attended the spring practice, had a short tour of the football facilities then we attended the family day BBQ. We spoke about changes with the new staff and got feedback on ways I can improve my skills before i come back up for camp this summer.”

Skinners trip to Lexington visit was great, and provided an opportunity to catch up with the coaching staff. He was earlier offered in 2024 under the old coaching staff before being re-offered:

It feels great to know that the new staff is interested in me. It means a lot to know I could play for a program like Kentucky. I’m just looking forward to getting back home using the advice they gave me in my training so I’ll be ready to come back down and compete at camp.

The tempo of practice & coaches attention to detail really stood out the most. The energy and how locked in the players were also grabbed my attention. Kentucky is definitely building something there.”

Other Programs In Contention

Although he has an older brother playing football for the program, Marques has not committed to Kentucky. He mentioned a few schools when discussing which colleges have been recruiting him lately.

“Those are the ones I’m currently talking to,” he noted. “I don’t want to rush anything,” he said, “I am taking my time and making sure that I make the right choice.”

When asked about a possible timeline for his commitment, Skinner said he needs to do more research. “No timeline yet. I still need to visit other places.”

Kentucky and The Skinner Family Connection

Being tied to Kentucky through the Skinner family helps Marques with his recruitment process. His brother, Mikkel Skinner, will be a redshirt freshman at Kentucky next year and will be the TE2. Therefore, the Wildcats have an advantage. They have a player whose family is already in the program.

After meeting and talking with the new staff I definately see where they are going. They are definitely on the right track.

The Way Forward

Marques has just begun his recruitment and has only just toured several schools. Much of his decision will depend on his development in the coming months.

I am still listening to figure out what school and program is gonna be the best place for me.

For Kentucky, keeping their connection with Marques strong is essential to their future success. This kid may very well grow into a great tight end and player. He could soon be just like his brother at the SEC level.
