Kentucky may still be hunting for their first 2026 commit, but there’s no shortage of top-tier talent currently touring campus. From August through early September and into October, Kentucky’s coaching staff has been on the move – and so have some of the top prospects, juggling visits to multiple blueblood programs.

Here’s the latest on who’s visited, who’s coming, and where these key 2026 prospects stand heading into decision season.

The fall recruiting cycle officially kicked off in August, and the Wildcats wasted no time locking down visits with several high-profile talents:

Arafan Diane

The 6-foot-10 big man from California recently released his top 5 schools earlier last week. Those being Kentucky, Arkansas, Houston, Indiana, and Virginia. Diane will be in Lexington later this week for his first visit, and plans on visiting the other four schools. The No. 1 center in the Class of 2026 remains a heavy priority for the Cats.

In contrast, Qayden Samuels, a five-star wing made headlines by cancelling his official visit to Kentucky earlier in August, signaling a shift away from the Wildcats. There is no clear frontrunner in one of the biggest stock risers this summer in the Class of 2026, but don’t count on Kentucky to pursue him moving forward.

The Recruiting Period Opening Up

Whether some recruits have visited Kentucky yet or not, last Wednesday the period opened up allowing them to once again visit and contact players, and the coaching staff met with various recruits. Here’s a full timeline for you:

September 3rd:

  • Mark Pope conducts in home visits with Taylen Kinney at midnight (the second the period opened) on
  • Mark Pope conducted an in home-visit with Deron Rippey Jr, who will visit Kentucky later in the fall.
  • Kentucky met with Baba Oladotun, and it was announced that an official visit to Kentucky will be scheduled in the near future. The No. 1 player in the Class of 2027 just recently reclassified, and Kentucky is in a great position for him.

Later in the day on September 3rd, On3’s Joe Tipton announced that the Taylen Kinney sweepstakes do not have a frontrunner currently. This is great news because earlier in the summer there was a ton of buzz regarding Louisville.

Later this week, to nobody’s surprise Kentucky was in to see Tyran Stokes, the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2026. They’re in a great position with him as it stands, but he just recently took a visit to USC and is expected to commit to a college before the start of high school basketball. Kansas, who he has already visited was not in to see him, which is great news if you’re a Kentucky fan. The only other school that Stokes is likely to schedule a visit for is Gonzaga, and potentially Oregon but that could be subject to change.

On the same day, the coaching staff was in to see Christian Collins (#7/247sports) and Tajh Ariza (#18/247sports). While Kentucky has offered both, they are in a much better position with Christian Collins. The 6’8 wing is one of the most promising prospects in the country. He also plans to visit Kentucky from October 3rd-5th, alongside Deron Rippey Jr, who rescheduled his visit earlier last month due to inclement weather in New Jersey.

Official Visits in Full Swing

Although we’re barely into September, we’ve already seen Kentucky bring highly coveted prospects to Lexington for official visits.

Maximo Adams took an offical visit to Kentucky this weekend, (#25/247sports), and his brother Marcus Adams played for Mark Pope when he was at BYU. Very good situation for Kentucky. He was one of the biggest stock risers in the Class of 2026 — Being ranked the #100th overall recruit on July 24th, to now being a top 25 recruit, it shows real promise.

Additionally, Caleb Holt (#5/247sports) also took an official visit to Kentucky this weekend. Although Alabama was one of the biggest contenders in his recruitment, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. After landing four-star guard Chris Washington Jr, and likely to land Tarrious Bouie, that fills up the backcourt. Kentucky and Auburn appear to be some of the biggest contenders as of right now, along with Kansas firmly in the mix.

What Does All This Mean For Kentucky?

Kentucky’s recruiting staff has been extremely active, and has navigated a crowded recruiting calendar filled with visits, offers, and more quite well with some of the top prospects in the count. While some visits have been cancelled or postponed, the staff has made a concerted effort to reschedule and push forward. They have prioritized some of the best players in the country, and we still have a lot of time to evaluate other players that will come up.

As we head deeper into October and decisions start to form, all eyes will be on the next wave of visits and verbal commitments, Kentucky’s ability to close on these top 2026 prospects will be critical while also being prepared for Basketball season. Kentucky faces Purdue in an exhibition game on October 24th in Rupp Arena. Expect UK to continue hosting prospects through the fall signing period and ramp up the recruiting conversations.
