Kentucky sharpshooter Milan Momcilovic, who committed to after withdrawing from the 2026 NBA Draft, believes he’s an ideal fit in Mark Pope’s offense. His numbers suggest he’s right.
Speaking with UK Sports Network, former Iowa State superstar Milan Momcilovic said Mark Pope’s offensive philosophy was a major reason he chose Lexington after withdrawing from the NBA Draft.
“I feel like just playing versus him at BYU really kind of stood out to me,” Momcilovic said. “His teams [were] though to play against [due to] a lot of shot making they had.”
The 6-foot-8 forward is coming off a breakout season in which he averaged 16.9 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 48.7% from three-point range. His 136 made three-pointers led the nation in one of the most historical shooting seasons in the history of college basketball. When he originally entered the transfer portal, it made him one of the most coveted prospect available.
Milan Momcilovic said Mark Pope’s emphasis on perimeter shooting made Kentucky feel like the ideal school.
“He really likes playing with shooters, so obviously thats my strength. I think we just mesh so well together.”
Milan also recalled the recruiting story, in which Pope conducted Zoom meetings while vacationing in Costa Rica before getting the commitment.
“He was taking it very serious, and obviously you can tell he really wanted me,” Milan said. “So I want to go to a coach that has trust in me.”
Milan Momcilovic was the No. 1 overrall player in the transfer portal, and the perfect fit for the Mark Pope offense. It’s going to be a fun season in Lexington with one of the best shooters in the history of college basketball.
