Missouri forward Mark Mitchell filed a lawsuit on Wednesday in Kentucky. This lawsuit seeks to prevent the NCAA from enforcing its four-season eligibility rule against the players involved. This would allow him to compete this upcoming season, appearing to be in Lexington.
Mark Mitchell is taking huge step toward playing college basketball this upcoming season. If granted eligibility, it will have a major impact on Kentucky.
State-level lawsuits have become an important path to secure eligibility. Giving players more certainty than the Colorado injunction is why players such as Keyshawn Hall and Jaxson Kohler have filed this lawsuit.
Mitchell is among several collegiate athletes named in the case. This aims to provide a fifth season for collegiate athletes that graduated from high school in 2022.
Mitchell would be a significant addition to Kentucky he is cleared to play. The Missouri forward averaged 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists last season while earning Second-Team All-SEC honors.
Additionally, Mark Mitchell scored 21 points in Missouri’s 73-68 win at Rupp Arena before dropping 32 points and seven rebounds against the Wildcats in the SEC Tournament.
Earlier this week, Mark Pope pointed out that while Kentucky is trending in the right direction this upcoming season, they are still looking for physicality and a presence on defense. Adding one of the best forwards in all of College Basketball last season would certainly help.
