A recent recruiting segment from Sleeper’s Media included Kentucky in the mix for Serbian standout Nikola Kusturica, though UCLA continues to be viewed as the team to beat.
What stood out wasn’t the list of programs involved, but the timing of a decision that never came. Last week, Bleed Blue’s Dylan Lewis reported that Kusturica would likely commit before the start of the FIBA U17 World Cup (June 27–July 5).
Kentucky was considered the early frontrunner, but as the recruitment progressed, Michigan and UCLA emerged as primary contenders and eventually moved ahead of the Wildcats.
That dynamic shifted after changes within Michigan’s coaching situation and Dusty Mays departure, giving momentum to UCLA. They have since been the most consistently programed mentioned in his recruitment.
Even with UCLA in the lead, no decision has been made. The anticipated timeline passed ahead of the FIBA event, but Kusturica remains uncommitted while competing internationally.
Kentucky is still involved after reportedly submitting one of the strongest offers, though there has been no indication of a renewed push. For now, UCLA holds the clearest edge, but the situation remains open as the summer progresses.
