Just hours after announcing his commitment to Kentucky, five-star wing Ryan Hampton spoke with Bleed Blue Network’s Dylan Brake about his decision: Kentucky’s recruiting pitch, and what Big Blue Nation can expect when he arrives in Lexington a year from now.
Hampton, the No. 6 recruit in the class of 2027 Kentucky after building a strong relationship with Mark Pope and his staff. Although some may consider his commitment early in contrast to most high-school recruits, Ryan sees things differently.
“To be honest, I don’t think it’s early,” Hampton told Bleed Blue Network. “With the portal and college basketball getting older by the day, it just made sense. Kentucky plays a great style of basketball, they have a great staff and they made it known for a while how much they believe in my ability and they have the plans to grow my game. The fit is there.”
That belief from the coaching staff played a major role in Hampton’s decision. The 6’6 wing who is averaging 22.5 points and 6.3 rebounds said Kentucky’s vision for his development stood out.
“We really just talked about how I can come in and develop and get ready to play as a freshman,” Hampton said. “They have all the resources to get me better to reach my ultimate goal.”
As for Kentucky fans, Hampton a message that everyone will appreciate:
“BBN is getting a DAWG, a WINNER, and a person who’s gonna show up every night and leave it on the floor!”
Additionally, Ryan Hampton confirmed with Bleed Blue Network that he will stay in the Class of 2027. Earlier this summer during the beginning of AAU season, rumors circulated of a potential reclassification if the fit was right.

For a program thats building momentum early on the high school recruiting trail, Ryan Hamptons commitment is a significant win. Hopefully it continues throughout the summer.
