Troy Stellato Commits to KENTUCKY!

Big Blue Nation is back on the positive side of news this morning following the commitment of Troy Stellato, a 6’1 and 190-pound receiver from Clemson. Stellato received his first college offer from the University of Kentucky and the staff finally got their wish four seasons later. There is plenty of open space in the receiver room, so let’s see how Stellato will impact an offense looking for redemption.

Player Background

Stellato was a four-star and top 200 prospect in the country according to 247 Composite. Out of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Stellato picked Clemson over Ohio State, and he held offers from Alabama, Notre Dame, Georgia, Oregon, and everyone else. He appeared in two games as a freshman before missing his entire second season with a torn ACL in fall camp. He came back nicely from the injury with 39 receptions for 338 yards and a touchdown out wide for the Tigers in 2023. Swinney moved him to the slot in 2024, where he had 25 catches for 264 yards and a touchdown while battling injuries throughout the season. In his five starts, he averaged 4.2 receptions for 44 yards a game. Stellato is a versatile player that can fill multiple roles for the Kentucky offense looking for answers at receiver.

Program Fit

Stellato is a quick and shifty slot receiver that gets open in the short to intermediate range and makes plays after the catch. He is a hands-catcher who only had one drop this past season in Death Valley. He shows a good understanding of zone concepts and consistently finds the soft spot in the defense and gives his quarterback a wide target to throw to. Despite being shifty, Stellato often finishes his receptions by lowering the shoulder and shows the ability to break tackles to continue downfield. The staff watched him up close and personally when he had 5 receptions for 59 yards in the Gator Bowl against the Cats, and they must have been impressed with his ability to get open against the Brad White zone scheme.

Position Outlook

One of the biggest conversations of the offseason has been flipping the culture of the Kentucky football program. Kentucky lost three of their top options after Dane Key, Barion Brown, and Hardley Gilmore all left via the transfer portal. After bringing in JJ Hester and Kendrick Law, Kentucky needed more help to fill the massive void in receiver production. Stellato was a highly recruited prospect who flashed when healthy at a prestigious program. Durability has to be the number one concern, but Hamdan could use the experienced receiver on the inside or outside as a reliable target for a whole new offense.
