No.14 Kentucky women’s basketball was on the road tonight taking on the Missouri Tigers and
leaving with a victory, 73-65.
Clara Strack led the way with 22 points and 12 rebounds, Georgia Amoore trailed behind with
19 points and five assists, Teonni Key put up a 13 point performance accompanied by her five
rebounds, and Dazia Lawrence topped it off with 12 points for the Cats.
Strack got to work on her 22 points, scoring the first points for Kentucky with a jumper. Missouri
reacted quickly to tie up the game, but Key gave the nudge to the Cats putting them in the lead,
4-2. The Tigers went on a streak to score the next six points but Key put it to a halt draining a
three. Lawrence put the ball in the basket giving the Cats the lead by one, 9-8.
Missouri took the next four points, but Strack hooked a layup and followed it up with a free throw
to tie up the game, 12-12. The Tigers scored the next four points again to take the lead, 16-12.
Amoore put some points on the board with two free throws and a basket to tie it up, 16-16. Key
wrapped up a 6-0 run with a layup taking the lead for the Cats, 18-16. Going into the second
quarter, the teams were tied, 18-18.
Missouri took the lead scoring the first two points to open up the quarter. However, a basket and
free throw from Strack gave the Cats the lead by one, 21-20. The Tigers didn’t let the Cats have
it for long taking the lead back. Strack countered scoring again to grab the lead back for the
Cats. Saniah Tyler got some action on the court, hooking a layup to extend the lead for the
Cats, 25-22. Missouri answered with a pair of threes to take a 28-25 lead.
Amelia Hassett wanted some action scoring a basket to get the class close, but it wasn’t close
enough before the Tigers drained another three to grow the lead, 31-27. Lawrence and Strack
each scored a basket to tie up the game, 31-31.Capping off the second quarter Missouri made
another three taking the lead into halftime, 34-31.
Key got some momentum for the Cats entering the third period, opening it up scoring the first
two points and Strack topped it up with a basket of her own to give the Cats the lead, 35-34.
The Tigers were quick to take the lead back, but Key responded with a three to tie up the game
again. Lawrence inched the Cats into the lead by two landing another basket, but Missouri
worked fast to tie it up, 39-39.
Amoore drained a three to give Kentucky the lead. However, Missouri tied up the game once
more. The Cats took control with a pair of free throws from Key, a basket from Amoore, and
Tyler topped it off with a three to give the Cats a 49-42 lead. Strack put the lid on the 9-0 run
scoring a basket of her own extending the Cats lead, 51-42.
Amoore sank a three to get things started in the fourth quarter. The Tigers answered, scoring
the next four in a row, but Amoore gave the ball to Strack to hook a layup. Lawrence gained two
baskets for the Cats, but Missouri made another basket to get within three, 63-60.
Strack hit again to grow the lead, but Missouri was on the Cats’ doorstep draining another three.
Amoore and Strack each delivered a basket, the score now 69-65. Amoore managed two free
throws and Lawrenced closed the game out with a pair of her own free throws, securing the win
for the Cats.
Kentucky will return home to take on the LSU Tigers this Sunday in Historic Memorial Coliseum.
Tipoff will be at 4:00 p.m. EST.
