UK Women Cruise To Victory

No. 16 University of Kentucky Women’s Basketball defeated Queens University from Charlotte
North Carolina 87-45 on Monday. This was the Cats first game back in Historic Memorial
Coliseum since November 18th and the first time these two teams have ever met.
Kentucky’s starting lineup for the evening was Georgia Amoore, Teonni Key, Dazia Lawrence,
Clara Strack, and Amelia Hassett.


Amelia Hassett scored her 1000th college career point while also putting up double-digits for the
game scoring 19 points, a new season high. Hassett wasn’t the only one to pull in double digit
points. Georgia Amoore contributed 20 points, Clara Strack added 16, and Teonni Key scored
12 points along with entering double-digits in rebounds with 13.


“Obviously it was a great feeling hitting that milestone,” Hassett explained in regards to scoring
her 1000th point, “ Obviously props to my teammates for obviously helping me get there.”
Kentucky was first to put points on the board with a jumper from Hassett followed by a layup
from Key. Strack was quick to get the ball back from Queens scoring a 2 followed by a 3 pointer
from Amoore. Strack then scored a layup pushing into the first media timeout.
The Cats closed out the first quarter in the lead 28-9.


Momentum continued in the second quarter for the Cats starting with a jumper from Strack, a
layup by Lawrence, a three by Strack, and another three by Hassett pushing Queens into
another timeout. Queens left the time out scoring some free throws, Kentucky countered with
Amoore landing all three of her free throws. Following these free throws was a pair of layups
from Hassett and Strack.


Kentucky would finish the first half still in the lead 52-18
Starting the third quarter Kentucky came out of the gates with an 8-4 run. Queens put some
more points on the board scoring 4 consecutive times before Lexi Blue got some more points on
the board for the Cats scoring a layup. Hassett and Key both shot some free throws landing
both of them, Amoore shot some, but only managed to sink one.


Kentucky entered the final quarter still in a dominate lead of 76-29
The final quarter began with some points on the board for Queens thanks to some free throws,
but Strack was quick to follow up those throws with a jumper and then a layup. Hassett didn’t let
Queens have their hands on the ball for long as she stole the ball and sank a jumper. Saniah
Tyler wrapped things up with a three.


Kentucky won 87-45 and will be on the road to Purdue this Saturday, December 14th.
