Wildcat Baseball Falls to Texas on April 11th

The Kentucky Wildcats hosted the Texas Longhorns at Kentucky Proud Park on Friday, April 11,
and fell 3-6 earning the first loss of the weekend series.


The starting lineup for the Cats was Luke Lawrence, Tyler Bell, Patrick Herrera, Cole Hage,
Hudson Brown, Devin Burkes, Shaun Montoya, Ethan Hindle and Griffin Cameron.The first on
the bump for the Cats was Nate Harris.


The first two innings were scoreless until Texas broke through in the top of the third. Ethan
Mendoza led off with a double followed by a single from Jared Flores who hit a single to bring
Mendoza home. This would be the only run the Longhorns could manage in the frame.


Kentucky responded in the bottom of the fifth. Lawrence got on base after a bunt and Herrera
got hit by a pitch putting two runners on base. Brown hit a single to bring home Lawrence and
tie up the game.


Kentucky struck again in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead with a Montoya home run.
However, Texas responded in the top of the seventh putting up three runs to put them abc in the
lead. Kimble Schuessler and Tommy Farmer IV both hit a single and Mendoza crushed a double
to bring in both runners.


Rylan Galavan brought Mendoza home to finish out the inning giving Texas a 4-2 lead. The
Longhorns continued to grow their lead at the top of the eighth. Aiden Rodriguez and Jayden
Duplantier both walked. Mendoza hit a single to score both runners and solidify the Longhorns’
lead at six runs. Kentucky only managed one more run before the game came to a close, taking
the first loss of the weekend series.


The Wildcats will return to action at Kentucky Proud Park on Saturday at noon.
