UK Women Win In Top 25 SEC Matchup

No. 12 Kentucky Women’s Basketball hosted No.22 Alabama Women’s Basketball Thursday
night receiving their 500th all-time win in Historic Memorial Coliseum 65-56.
The starting line up being Clara Strack, Teonni Key, Georgia Amoore, Dazia Larewnce, and
Amelia Hassett, five of these starters working their way up the national rankings. Kentucky also
celebrated Georgia Amoore’s 800th career assist.
The tip off went to Alabama, but it was Kentucky that scored first thanks to a basket from
Amoore. Strack scored a jumper after an Alabama three giving the Cats an early lead,4-3. It
wasn’t long before the Tide took the lead and Hassett responded with a three taking the lead
back for the Cats 7-5.
Both teams went back and forth with one another tying up the game three different times, but
Alabma would take the lead ending the first quarter, 21-15.
Defense kicked into gear during the second and Lawrence came out hot at the beginning of the
quarter hitting a three and Hassett followed shortly with a three of her own after an Amoore
bucket to tie the game 25-25.
Saniah Tyler, now on the court, landed the three the Cats needed to push them into the lead.
Strack shot a three and it bounced off the rim twice before falling into the net. The Cats had a
12-0 run giving them the comeback and the lead into the half 34-30.
Coming into the third quarter the Tide landed the first two points but Key and Strack landed a
basket each stretching the Cats lead, 38-32. Amoore managed two free throws and Bama
reacted with a basket of their own, but Amoore didn’t allow the basket to do much when she hit
a three the score now, 43-36.
The Tide came creeping on the Cats and got within five, but Amoore hit another three only
making catching up for the Tide more difficult. Tyler hit another three followed by a layup from
Strack and topped off with a free throw from Hassett settling the score, 52-40, at the end of the
third.
Strack had the ball in her hands at the beginning of the fourth quarter and landed a basket to
get things started. Alabama went on a streak scoring the next four points only stopped by a
Hassett three.
The Cats continued to grow their lead 17 points before the Tide went on another streak, this
time scoring the next seven, but it wouldn’t be enough. The Cats secured the win, the final score
65-56.
Kentucky Women’s Basketball will be on the road and return to action Sunday to take on
Oklahoma at Oklahoma at 4 p.m. ET.
