No. 8 Kentucky women’s basketball hosted and defeated the Georgia Lady Dogs in Historic
Memorial Coliseum celebrating Alumni Day on Sunday.
The Wildcats stepped out on the court with a starting line up of Teonni Key, Amelia Hassett,
Clara Strack, Dazia Lawrence, and Georgia Amoore. Amoore led the way for the Cats with a
total of 21 points and seven assists for this game. Lawrence trailed behind her with a total of 15
points. Key, Strack, and Hassett put on a 14 point performance each.
The Lady Dogs got the ball in the tip off, but Hassett got to work quickly leading the offense with
some three’s. The Cats went on a 12-5 run and Georgia had enough and took the first time out
of the game. Coming out of the timeout, Georgia scored the next four points making the score
12-9.
Key made two free throws that were followed by a layup to push the Cats further into the lead,
16-9. Lawrence, Hassett and Amoore each added a three of their own, capping off the first
quarter with a 30-15 lead.
Georgia opened up the second quarter scoring the first points and Strack responded with a
basket. The Lady Bulldogs went on a 9-1 run to train and get some momentum going but Strack
hit a pair of free throws and Key hooked another layup not letting Georgia get too close. Amoore
drained a three extending the lead, 40-26.
Lexi Blue made use of her time off the bench hitting a three making it 43-28. Georgia scored
again and Amoore landed two free throws to wrap up the first half, 45-30.
Coming into the third quarter there was a dry spell from both teams with Georgia missing some
baskets and Kentucky on landing two. Kentucky still held the lead 47-33 but Strack and Key
enhanced it to 51-33. Georgia went on a quick 3-0 run, but the Cats answered it with a 11-2 run
ending the third quarter 62-40.
Georgia fought, but it was not enough. The Cats finished up the final quarter leading by as many
as 29 points until the end of the game.
Kentucky will be on the road this weekend visiting Missouri this Thursday. Tipoff will be at 7:30
p.m. EST.
