Washington guard Zoom Diallo announced his commitment to Kentucky, giving Mark Pope and the Wildcats a major addition out of the transfer portal. This is one of the many dominoes that will help shape the roster. Diallo quickly became one of Kentucky’s top priorities after entering the portal. Kentucky moved forward aggressively to land the sophomore guard.
Kentucky’s first portal addition has been a point guard for the third year in a row under Mark Pope.
This past season at Washington, the 6’4 guard averaged 15.7 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per gam. Diallo also shot 48.9% from the field and 31.5% from three. A pretty solid improvement in contrast to his freshman year, shooting just 18.2%. Diallo started 31 games and emerged as one of the top guards available in the transfer portal. He drew interest from multiple high-major programs before ultimately choosing Kentucky.

Diallo was also a former McDonald’s All-American and Top-30 recruit in the 2024 class. Although he was never officially offered, John Calipari did recruit him before he chose Washington. His experience as a primary ball-handler is something Kentucky has prioritized this offseason. Especially following the departures of Jaland Lowe, Jasper Johnson, and Denzel Aberdeen seeking a fifth year of eligbility.
The commitment marks an important early portal win for Mark Pope, and it definitely won’t be the last. Diallo is expected to step into a huge role, giving the Wildcats with an experienced guard who has already produced at a high level in a power conference.
With Diallo now in the fold, Kentucky fills one of its biggest offseason needs and continues building toward next season.
